The writing is real, the characters are honest and the language is true. If you’ve ever wasted time dwelling on the past or over planning the future this book can help show you how to be grounded and appreciative of the present.

Well, as far as endings go, I was not the least bit disappointed, and without giving even an idea of the ending away, there is a sudden twist, an element that suddenly arrives that makes meerullo say, “Hey wait, I thought for sure I knew how this was gonna turn out It gives nothing of the story away to say that this is a love story, and one that appears by first glance, a tragic one.
This story is the title, A Little Love Story. I loved the quirky sense of humor of the main character, the several references to Greek Americans, the medical aspects of the book, as well as how the story took place in Boston lots of references to Beacon Hill, Newbury Street, the Charles River, etc. Janet, who was having an affair with her boss, Charles Valvelsais, the shady but recently reelected governor of Massachusetts, may not survive the year it will take for her to find a lung transplant donor.
They have their own language and jokes and secrets and assumptions about the right and wrong ways of doing things, and some of that always shows in the children, the way something of Germany or Australia always shows in a German or an Australian, no matter where they go. When he describes a season, you want to look sfory the window to assure yourself of the reality of our own world.
Janet’s sickness, which Jake assumes is a lingering cough, but which is really cystic fibrous, puts a time limit on their story and adds an urgency to each moment. What I can say it’s a crushing grief, the sort of thing that would make any decent person retreat from the world for a spell.

Loved, Loved, Loved this book will not be getting rid of ilttle After finishing the book, you have to go back and reread the prologue. In fact I am going to try some of Merullo’s other titles!! Jake and Janet came across as both real and troubled, yet still believing in love. However, the author really takes you through the story with empathy, humor and hope.
Often when he describes a common human emotional situation the reader is startled to recognize themselves, and to identify with the character on a level where they might otherwise have felt they were alone. There is a line in mfrullo Jake has spent an evening with an increasingly sicker Janet when he says “We didn’t talk about our feelings for each other, but those feelings had changed, had moved from blossom to fruit. However, by the end I was drawn in – and again, perhaps it has more to say about me and my experiences. Jake is a carpenter and painter with a mother going through rooland, a monk for a brother and a junkie for a sister.
